Curriculum
Curriculum Plan (Scope & Sequence)
Alternative Curriculum Plan
Option I
Follow the existing scope & sequence for 2s & 3s and Pre-Primary. Include kids in grade 3 with Primary and grade 4 with Junior. For purposes of clarity, we’ll call these combined departments younger and older elementary. Follow this sequence:
Year | Younger Elementary | Older Elementary |
---|---|---|
Year 1 | Primary Year 1 | Middler Year 1 |
Year 2 | Primary Year 2 | Junior Year 2 |
Year 3 | Middler Year 1 | Junior Year 1 |
Year 4 | Primary Year 2 | Middler Year 2 |
Year 5 | Primary Year 1 | Junior Year 1 |
Year 6 | Middler Year 2 | Junior Year 2 |
- No matter how you work it out, some children will end up repeating a year’s worth of the same departments—but never back-to-back.
- Since departments are age-appropriate, you will find some things in the student book or take-home papers may be a stretch. In the Middler department, for instance, there are at-home devotionals. First graders will not yet have reading comprehension to do this on their own so parents will need to assist the child. Alternatively, sixth graders may feel like the Middler stories don’t relate to them.
Option II
Follow the existing scope & sequence for 2s & 3s and Pre-Primary. Include kids in grade 3 with Primary and grade 4 with Junior. For purposes of clarity, we’ll call these combined departments younger and older elementary. For every other 2-year cycle, break from the scope & sequence and both classes do Middler at the same time. Follow this sequence:
Year | Younger Elementary | Older Elementary |
---|---|---|
Year 1 | Primary Year 1 | Junior Year 1 |
Year 2 | Primary Year 2 | Junior Year 2 |
Year 3 | Middler Year 1 | Middler Year 1 |
Year 4 | Middler Year 2 | Middler Year 2 |
- Not all kids will cover the departments in order.
- Because departments may be out of order, the age-appropriateness may be askew. Some parts of the student book or take-home papers may be a stretch. In the Middler department, for instance, there are at-home devotionals. First graders will not yet have reading comprehension to do this on their own so parents will need to assist the child. Alternatively, sixth graders may feel like the Middler stories don’t relate to them now that they’re older.
Option III
Follow the existing scope & sequence using all of the Strong Kids departments except for Middler. Include kids in grade 3 with Primary and grade 4 with Junior.
- No matter the rotation, kids will always repeat one of the two years in each department.
- While kids will still have gone through the Bible chronologically in other departments, kids will miss out on covering the Bible timeline from Genesis to Revelation.
- Since departments are age-appropriate, you will find some things in the student book or take-home papers may be a stretch. For instance, a third grader may feel they’ve outgrown some of the stories in Primary while a fourth grader may need additional assistance from parents with the at-home devotionals.
Bible Instruction
- Strong Kids has a two-year through-the-Bible scope and sequence from Pre-Primary through Juniors.
- In the Pre-Primary and Primary age groups, we break up the Old Testament sequences with lessons on Jesus to coincide with Christmas and Easter and to emphasize the gospel.
- The Pre-Primary through Juniors scope and sequences all end their first and second years at the same point in the Bible. So, for example, a second grader who goes through the first year of Primary this fall will pick up the second year of Middler next fall where the first year of Primary ended. For the most part, students will have a seamless transition from one age group to the next.
- Strong Kids spends quite a bit of time in Paul’s writings, especially in Strong Kids for Juniors. We also spend time in books like Job, Psalms, and Proverbs. We cover some of the Minor Prophets.
- The Strong Adults curriculum is very comprehensive. For instance, we actually have two 13-week courses on the Minor Prophets, covering each of them in detail.
- Regular Baptist Press, the publisher of Strong Curriculum, was founded to produce distinctively Baptist Sunday School curriculum based on the entire “counsel of God.” Biblical integrity and doctrinal soundness have remained our hallmarks since 1952.
Departments (Recommended Ages)
- 2s & 3s (Ages 2 and 3)
- Pre-Primary (Ages 4 and 5)*
- Primary (Grades 1 and 2)
- Middler (Grades 3 and 4)
- Junior (Grades 5 and 6)
- Middle School (Grades 6 through 8)**
- High School (Grades 9 through 12)
- Adult
*Essentially this is Pre-K and K. Some students might spend three years in this department if they go to kindergarten late.
**Grade distribution varies by school district. Follow the distribution that best mirrors how students are divided in your local district. If grade 6 is part of elementary school, consider placing those students in the Junior Department. If grade 9 is part of junior high, consider keeping those students in the Middle School Department.
Doctrinal Statement
Emphasis
- RBP designed Strong Curriculum material to be comprehensive. It is gospel-oriented, apologetic, and chronological. We don’t think a customer should have to choose between those emphases. All of them are important.
- The Pre-Primary and Primary age groups spend extra time on Christ and His mission. We realize the students in those age groups need a clear understanding of the gospel so they might be challenged to respond to it.
- The chronological emphasis is especially prevalent in the Middler age group. We have timeline cards, timeline posters, and timeline sticker charts to reinforce the Bible’s story.
- The apologetic emphasis is more apparent in the Junior material. The Junior take-home paper has a Big Question section that tackles topics that are at times apologetic in nature.
- We realized that covering the exact same lesson in every age group would severely limit what the students would learn through our curriculum cycle. So we designed the scope and sequence to allow each age group to emphasize different parts of the Bible and different truths while staying on about the same course through the Bible. That means each age group is learning on their level while maintaining a seamless through-the-Bible curriculum.
Strong Curriculum is a Sunday school curriculum you can recommend with confidence.
Foreign Languages
Gospel Presentation
- The gospel is presented regularly.
- We also have specific quarters that cover the gospel even more thoroughly.
- For example, Strong Kids for Juniors has a full quarter (Year 2 Quarter 2) on the gospel of John to emphasize the person and work of Jesus.
- We also encourage students to be active witnesses for Christ.
Jr Church
Jr Church is included in the Strong Kids for 2s & 3s and Pre-Primaries curriculum Teacher Kits. The Jr Church resources are not stand-alone as they are intended to be an extension of the curriculum. They are dependent on the lessons taught during Sunday School.
RBP offers a separate three-year through-the-Bible Jr Church program for Grades 1–6. It’s Grow Time Jr Church. It offers younger, older, and combined-group options to fit your church.
Planting/Growing Faith
In 2018, RBP launched the brand new Strong Kids—part of the Strong Curriculum line—which has replaced RBP’s Planting Faith and Growing Faith curriculum. These old lines are no longer available:
- Planting Faith
- Growing Faith
- God’s Explorers
- Truth Travelers
- Faith Detectives
Permission will not be granted to make copies of these old lines. See copyright information for further details.
The scope and sequence of Strong Kids differs from Planting Faith and Growing Faith. They are not interchangeable.
Relevancy
- We intentionally emphasize student application. The material is built on seven teaching aims that Jesus modeled when He was on earth. They are as follows:
- Believe the gospel
- Understand Biblical ethics
- Internalize godliness
- Learn doctrine
- Develop life skills
- Uplift others
- Prepare to serve
- Every lesson is identified with one of these overall aims. Each lesson also has specific measurable outcomes that guide the teacher in building spiritually strong people—hence our name! The aims above are an acrostic. The first letter in each aim spells BuildUP. (Ephesians 4:12-14)
- The take-home papers for Pre-Primary through Juniors have a Measuring Growth section that gives parents a synopsis of the lesson and a description of what living out the lesson would look like in their children’s lives.
- The Middler and Junior age groups have devotionals for the students to do at home. The devotions walk the students through either the passage for the lesson or a related passage. The devotionals challenge the students to live out the lessons they learned in Sunday School.
- The Junior material in particular is sensitive to what is happening in our culture. For example, it includes a lesson on God’s definition of marriage, emphasizing the truth without getting into the perversions prevalent in current culture.
Samples
If you would like to try a sample of our curriculum, you may download everything you need for one lesson (teacher book, student book, kit contents, etc.) on our free trial page. If you would like a physical sample, we recommend purchasing a kit for review. (Per our return policy, opened kits are non-returnable.)
Scripture Usage
Strong Kids is thoroughly Bible-based. Especially in Middler and Junior, the lessons call for reading of Scripture throughout the lessons.
Teacher Training
We conduct workshops at churches and Christian Education conferences throughout the country. To request a teacher training seminar to be held at your church or to inquire about upcoming seminars in your area, please contact us today!

Teacher Kits
Contents
Strong Kids
All of the Strong Kids departments have a Teacher Kit available for purchase.
Each teacher kit includes a teacher guide, teaching pictures or picture book, a student book, a set of take-home materials, a DVD with supplemental videos, a resource CD, and an online download code. Additional materials such as Jr Church teacher guides, flannelgraph figures, and posters come in some of the kits, depending on age or grade level.
Each Teacher Kit includes either one attendance chart and stickers or one sheet of recognition stickers, depending on department. While they are sold separately in sets for five children, the Teacher Kits contain only one set as there is enough of those particular materials in the kit for one child.
Strong Students
All of the Strong Students departments have a Teacher Kit available for purchase.
Each teacher kit includes a teacher guide, a student book, posters, a DVD with supplemental videos, a resource CD, and an online download code. The CD and download code include worksheets, Home Connection Tool, and additional teacher resources.
Chart & Stickers / Recognition Stickers
Each Strong Kids Teacher Kit includes either one attendance chart and stickers or one sheet of recognition stickers, depending on the department. While they are sold separately in sets for five children, the Teacher Kits contain only one set. There is enough of these particular materials in the kit for one child.
Which items are available separately?
To fully use the curriculum, you must purchase a Teacher Kit, which includes everything you need to teach. Not all items in the Teacher Kits are available for purchase separate from the kit. Here is the comprehensive list of items that you can purchase if you need additional copies:
- Teacher Guides
- Jr. Church Teacher Guides (for 2s & 3s and Pre-Primary)
- Student Books
- Take-Home Cards (2s & 3s)
- Strong Kids at Home (Take-Home Papers)
- Attendance Charts and Stickers (Pkg. of 5)
- Recognition Stickers (Pkg. of 5)
Also, the following items are not included in the kit and are available as a onetime purchase:
- Doll Board Set (2s & 3s)
- 2s & 3s Music, Vol 1

- 2s & 3s Music, Vol 2

All items may be purchased at RBPstore.org.
Download Codes
Download codes are found on the back flap of the Resource CD sleeve. In limited cases, they may alternatively be on the kit box.
How to use Bible Story DVDs
We recommend showing our Bible Story DVDs via a projector or TV connected directly to a DVD player or a DVD-equipped computer. For a smaller class, consider showing on a laptop.
If your church wishes to instead use Proclaim, PowerPoint, or a portable device (e.g., tablet), you may need to complete additional steps. Here’s what Proclaim recommends: https://support.faithlife.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007374991-Does-Proclaim-support-DVD-playback-. While their recommendation specifically mentions Proclaim, it would apply to any presentation software. Please note that this does not give you permission to violate any copyright notices.
Onetime Purchases (Items not in kit)
The following items are not included in the Teacher Kit(s) and are available as a onetime purchase:
Excluding these items keeps the price of the kits down and avoids costly duplication of resources that you already have. If the Doll Board Set were included in every 2s & 3s kit, you would have 32 board dolls at the end of one two-year cycle.

Returns
What is your return policy?
If you purchased your materials through a retailer or distributor, please contact them directly.
May I return unused Strong Curriculum materials?
Yes, in compliance with our Return Policy. The materials must be unmarked and in salable condition. Kit boxes must not be opened. No returns will be accepted without prior authorization. Please read our Return Policy for complete details.
How do I get a return authorization (RA) number?
There are two ways to obtain an RA reference number:
- Contact Customer Service directly at 800-727-4440.
- Use our downloadable form and submit your request via e-mail or fax.
What is a return authorization?
An RA reference number is a required authorized number provided by RBP that links directly to your account to ensure credit is issued to your account as quickly as possible. By obtaining this RA reference number, your return is pre-approved for credit before we receive the product. This reference number is linked to your account and is set up to include the discounts at which the product was purchased and confirm product is returnable. By having the return pre-approved the process of issuing credit to your account is faster, more efficient and accurate.
Why do I need a return authorization?
What is the deadline for returning Strong Curriculum materials?
- Fall material must be returned by November 30.
- Winter material must be returned by February 28.
- Spring material must be returned by May 30.
- Summer material must be returned by August 30.
Undated adult and senior high electives may be returned if the course is still in print.
What if I return materials after the deadline?
You will not receive any credit for those items.
How soon should I expect credit to my account?
- Returns that follow these established guidelines will be processed within 2–4 weeks from the date received at RBP.
- Please keep in mind our goal is to process every return as quickly as possible; however, during heavy volume and peak periods, slight delays may happen.
- Once your return has been processed, RBP will mail you a copy of your credit memo.
- It is important that you do not take deductions on future payments to RBP until you receive your credit memo. Taking deductions from your account before credit is issued may cause you to incur late charges on outstanding balances.
Do I need a return authorization for damaged product?
What do I do if I received a product that I did not order?
- If a product is shipped due to a Regular Baptist Press error, please contact Customer Service immediately at 800.727.4440. The Customer Service representative handling the call may issue credit and/or send the correct product to you at our expense. If the product needs to be returned, the Customer Service representative will coordinate the return method of shipping at our expense.
